sonic au/fan story? Where Sonic lost his superspeed and Shadow met other Sonic and his friends in a parallel universe

I’ll drop some sketches here because why not

Girl on the first pic is my fan character, Verse the Hedgehog, her full name is Verse O’Tyle. Sonic reminds Verse of her siblings in a way, and I like to imagine them both chilling somewhere on a hill.

She is a “chill girl surrounded by chaos” - and chaos is her crazy af family. Her siblings are on a third pic: brother Leaph and cousin Snowflake. Leaph loves jumping, he leaps high as possible, and hides in a trees, causing Verse to search for him for hours lol. And Snowflake is overall quiet girl, shy and cute. Her quills are too soft which hurts a lot, that’s why she only wears gloves and really soft shoes. Snowflake usually just follows Leaph everywhere. There is also Verse’s mother and uncle but I got no pics of them yet

Shadow the Hedgehog

So the whole AU idea is that chaos energy around has risen, because of it an accident has happened with Sonic, and Shadow and Sonic had a brief fight during which all the negative emotions and stuff snapped Shadow’s inhibitor rings. It’s a REALLY long story short because there is more details to it.

but basically it caused all the Shadow’s energy go inside-out and this “Raw Chaos Energy” was still living in the past, unconsciously twisting everything around, and blaming everyone around (aka Sonic and his friends) for Maria’s death. Realising she was long dæd Raw Energy bends space-time to save her. This creates a parallel universe, where past!Shadow now has some of the “flashes” of future events with Maria’s and using it to save her. Also this form is like SUPER STRONG and the only reason Sonic survived it because before that Master Emerald had transferred some of its power to Knuckles just for a brief moment

so here is a sketch of Emerald/Raw Energy Knuckles

Not gonna go with much details because I might change a lot of that, but the whole idea is that in parallel universe where Maria had survived (even if for a few more decades only) Sonic didn’t get his super speed. It’s kinda to balance whole world out, because Maria had influenced people in a good way while she was living her full life

ANYWAY

remember the flashes I mentioned earlier? Shadow also saw Sonic and the others in those “flashy events” but he has no idea who tf they are, and later on he will try to find them because he started to have more and more dreams about them

I still didn’t pic a name for him, it makes sense for him to be Wendy (like a wind ig) but I don’t know how to make it unisex or something. I called him “Marcille” before because in Archie Comics he was called Maurice and I loved the way Marcille sounds lol

and yeah TRANS SONIC 🏳️‍⚧️🗣️🗣️ the original sonic is also trans but he is already comfortable with himself so

since sonic isn’t such a hero as he in a main universe, people here are way less united and there is more crime and bad people (mostly because people mistrust each other, so it’s not just about the super speed but specifically Sonic’s mentality)

and Amy in this universe is the one who tries to hold it all together, helping people by the cost of her own happiness

No one even know the guy named Tails and to be fair he doesn’t even exist. Miles, however, does but he is not with the main squad - after all he was never saved from that village and was constantly bullied for his two tails

Day 8

Hey look! More Pining! This one was also colored after the fact. 

When it comes to my ship art I generally like to make things cozy, but there’s no way I could ever get enough of “two girls madly in love with the other to an obnoxious degree,” like c’mon that’s just perfect. So I finally drew some of Mikan getting to crush just as hard as Junko in these pics. Still gonna be more of that on Junko’s end though, it’s gonna be a bit before things balance out a bit.  By the way you wanna know how fast I was making these? The first 27 pictures (reminder that 1-3 were made a year prior) were made in the span of under 2 weeks. I’d wanna say around 9 days but possibly less. And yeah, with the exception of No. 30 these were all sketches of relatively low effort, but also this isn’t exactly my first rodeo with doing stuff similar to thise.

I’ve in the previous 5 years ran an event called Bobovember, a 30 day art challenge (mostly for myself but others joined in! It was nice), and after like the second year I could barely pull off preparing even the first week of them. Meanwhile despite having the same workload I had 27 sketches prepped in no time flat, the brain rot was truly intense back in the day. I’ll come back to this in the future though since there is a bit more to it, and I like to yap on these posts, it’s actually a nice break from work!

I did also slightly edit the expressions on this, Junko originally had more of a V mouth, however it always looked a little off to me.

Season 2 final thoughts:

My apologies to my Psych mutuals, my hyperfixation took me on a trip to Hatchetfield and very soon it’ll be in cinderellas castle. It can’t be helped. I plan on finishing my rewatch, especially because I’m about to get into one of my favorite seasons, but it’ll probably be sporadic at best.

Here are my final thoughts on season 2!

This is the official season of lassie stumbling upon shawn and gus by happenstance. He does it in american duos, dis-lodged, black and tan, and im counting lassie standing in front of his pic at the museum. He can push them away as much as he wants but shawns like a boomerang.

I find it incredibly disrespectful that shawn and gus took credit for finding that dinosaur when that one guy literally died for it . Also im pretty sure it would be impossible for a t-rex to be discovered in california because it was all underwater at that time. But thats neither here nor there.

Shawn being a forgery/handwriting expert brings up a funny/depressing image of little shawn having to write lines but in different peoples handwritings

Shawn is an incredibly fast thinker! He saw this scene

And not only deduced what actually happened, but also came up with a cover story for him at the same time.

Word of the day Abulic: abnormal lack of ability to act or to make decisions. Psych writers just casually dropped that little pearl in the middle of a scene in the finale

Overall it was a great season! Juliet got some more scenes, plus her character is beginning to get fleshed out, Gus was even funnier than i remembered, the heartfelt moments were very well acted especially by james who nailed the whole avoidant turmoil of it all. Henry, though, as ive stated in previous posts, is a lot harder to watch as a full fledged adult. He’s just such a prick to shawn any chance he can get. I’m so curious if I’ll be able to forgive him myself down the road. I mean, no wonder Shawn split when he turned 18 and hardly spoke to him again. Man, i wish we could’ve seen Shawn right after he left cause that is one juicy peach. He’d just be all angsty, jumping from one job to the next, getting fired or losing interest (or my personal headcanon is that his gifts of seeing everything kept getting him in some sort of trouble kind of like Poker Face (with natasha lyonne)).

⬜-Favorite part about drawing (and least favorite)? I actually really enjoy inking! I know a lot of people hate it, but for me it’s like… the place where my messy, incoherent sketches turn into a picture. I hate trying to make vehicles and buildings make sense, though; there’s a couple of those coming up in the next few pages of my comic and good lord. Augh. Guh.

🟦-OCs? (Show if you want)? So the weird thing is that I have a lot of OCs, but almost never post them? Part of it is that I’m also a writer, and many of my characters are from things that hopefully I’ll be able to publish someday under my IRL name, which is an entirely separate sphere from my online life. Here’s a couple book characters with their names censored out, though:

I also play a lot of TTRPGs, usually though not always DMed by my wonderful girlfriend @poisonforpigeons, and often draw up the characters I’ve made for those:

And I don’t usually make OCs for established settings, but these guys are the exception— mine and my gf’s Nimona movie OCs, Cassandrius Sangster (knight) and Kandor Highfield (squire). There’s no fic or anything they just exist in us talking about them. I love them so much.

(In the movie’s universe ‘squire’ seems like a separate career track, as opposed to real knights where it’s something you are on the way to being knighted? So Kandor is Cass’s squire but isn’t trying to move out of that position.)

Hiiii !! So I’ll show you two ways I do my drawings….

When I know I’m going to do lineart, I make sure that the sketch underneath is clear enough to know where everything is. I use a lot of layers that way in case I mess up, I can change what I need to without erasing everything. Like the face, sometimes if I’m not confident enough to do it on the same layer, I’ll make a new one and do the face there. I ALWAYS draw the hairline + hair on separate layers. I also go on top of everything and add any other details or fix anythin that does look quite right !!

( by the way, when I ask about “characters” I mean not only misha and andrey, but also europe and maya, because they are also worthy of attention <зз) 

2. what about the abbreviation "dyusha" for andrey? in russian it is... not used very often, but still, it sounds very cute. so it would be interesting to know how you would feel about this? 3. I also want to hear about the names of the characters!! how did you choose them? I mean........ how did it happen that from ☺europa☺ you switched to 👹MiKhAiL👹?? 4. and lastly, let's return to my wife for another moment. she suggested that andrey was now also in a time loop. what do you say about that? and also in enigma, she noticed that misha seemed to be addressing the second person in the lines: "and if you wanted to be anything more than just free" and "you’ve seen a hundred lies I see that all the time". is this second person a viewer? or maybe one of the previously mentioned characters??

okay im gonna try and answer everything here in a coherent way so sorry if nothing makes sense

im just fine with lotes of questions :) answering asks and responding to comments is one of my favorite things ever and i brings a verry big smile to my face

on andrei: i consider him to be a skinny little gut but not exactly unathletic, and in addition i think he would have basic combat training and probably be good with firearms. misha is probably a very average bodytype, nothing special, not particularly athletic.

i do not speak russian (though ferry has recently encouraged me to learn so maybe in like four years ill be able to form a sentence) so i dont know anything about the short forms so you can do whatever you want. if you coin it and peoples tart calling him that i will not stop it from happening

i do not name my characters, i usually let me friends name them (i think that the only one i named was europa and his partner). going forward maybe ill try to make it more cohesive

the time loop idea im seeing thrown around alot is really cool and while i havent particularly wrote any of my songs about that in general i see it fitting into the loose narrative i have going on. also in enigma misha is definitely talking to andrei whenever he says the word "you" but it could also be to the listener because the entire theme of enigma is 4th wall breaking and meta shenanigans like that

first sketch is an older concept for “edelweiss: girl of the wood”, a little project I have cooking in the back of my mind that’s my own take on the Snow White story. maybe someday when I'm super talented I’ll make it lol

third is a lazy ref sheet of one of my many sonic fankids, specifically of jolene d’coolette :D she’s the new freedom fighters’ medic and search & rescue agent.

Hello! Do your think you could do a body tut? I have trouble with proportions and stuff and you're real good at them

ofc and thank u 🫶🫶 this is definitely smth I feel I still struggle with but here’s some things I do to help and how I generally sketch- using a drawing of dally to demo (everything under the cut bc it’s gonna be long lol)

First always use a reference (not those drawing templates I swear they will mess u up more- use photos) I stunted my art growth for so long bc I just refused to use one- it also curbs the need to do (what I think are) boring (yet helpful) anatomy studies- plus it’s a good comparison for proportions when seeing ur art vs the pose in the photo

Second thing I find really helpful is larger pencil strokes, which is not to say never use smaller movements, but most of the time my pose will come out cleaner and less stiff when I avoid small movements as it means there’s no confusion where a part starts or ends- essentially trust in large pencils strokes and large shapes 🫡

I will say when I was first tryna figure out proportions I was using shapes (mainly rectangles tbh) to dictate how large the forearm for example for be compared to the legs or head I chicken scratched sm, but after a good bit of practice it will be ingrained in ur mind when smth looks wrong and what that part it is

Now for how I go abt drawing

this is generally how I start- and it’s so simple but using lines of action for every ‘motion’ whether it be the torso turning one way or a person leaning is so helps- it tends to lessen stiffness in my drawing

I go off of the head and motion by using shapes/lines to get the base of the torso and limbs- just keeping in mind the reference and stuff like that the legs should be abt half of ur body- then I truly flesh out the torso and legs using the lines for their placement- and often times I’ll use a ‘u’ shape to dictate joint placement (shoulders r off the torso, elbow and knee in the middle of its respective limb)

As for the shape of the legs and arms the only advice I can give is draw a lot and vaguely understand human anatomy and one day it’ll magically make sense (ik this isn’t helpful but if it ain’t the truth)

then ARMS !!! I find it’s easier to wait on doing arms so I make sure they don’t reach too far down the leg or in general too big compared to the legs (ignore dally’s right arm it’s covered by pb later- you’ll see)

Then this is the biggest jump- I almost completely erase my drawing using a kneaded eraser- when I’m unhappy when a pose or how something is looking I sometimes repeat drawing the pose itself multiple times- changing limb sizes and shapes etc. until I’m happy with it and add clothing

Never be afraid to restart and plus I find my second or third attempt always looks cleaner and better proportioned- then in the final pic u can see the difference between how I start vs end with pb sitting to the side

Ocs. Hand em over

AAAH! Okay, so I’m in work right now and don’t have my IPad so I can’t upload good quality pics but!

Mara, my sweet girl, was the first ghoul oc I made. She started out as a random water ghoul that I had no name for and now she’s my daughter and I love her dearly. I like to base my character designs on actual people at first and then let them evolve from there, so Mara was initially based on Rachel Weiss in The Mummy (my favourite movie lol) and her face has been tweaked and changed every time I draw her until I settled on how she looks in the sketch of her and Aurelia.

The first ✨lore post✨ I made about her is here but I’ve had many many Mara thoughts since then lol.

She works in the offices doing mostly filing and admin because she’s scary good at organising things and keeping tabs on where everything is in the ministry’s filing system. When she’s not doing that, however, she’s either hanging out with her girlfriend Aurelia or is in the nearest body of water. I like to describe her true form as a headlight eel that grew legs. I’m still working on a set design for it that I’ll post in the future but just know she is Very Fucked Up looking and I love her.

Aurelia is the second oc I had a design for, but she’s not the second one I have (that’s Helio). She’s my big beefy quintessence ghoul who is one of the ministry’s healers and sometimes does handywork around the Abbey because she’s 7ft tall and BUILT so she can carry heavy stuff and reach most places without a ladder. She’s also the only character who’s face hasn’t been based on an existing person, she just popped into my head fully formed (I guess my love for buff women is just that strong lol)

My dear Aurelia has never had a thought in her life that isn’t “must help friend” or “tiny pretty girlfriend”. I like to think of her as a gentle giant who is suspiciously kind for a demon, but she’s someone who genuinely really cares about the people around her, making her a pretty good healer because she’s willing to help anyone who needs it.

Her true form is a great, hulking cloud of smoke that she can solidify into a physical form at will. When she gets out of her glamour it’s very hard to get her back in by the nature of her true form. The smoke is difficult to capture and bind with magic and because she really does hate scaring people unless absolutely necessary, she tends to stay in her glamour as much as possible. Her eyes are the only thing that peek out of the fog unless she solidifies her body, glowing white hot and staring into the soul of anyone she sees.

The first time Aurelia saw Mara was a little while after she was summoned. She’d been in the gardens and watched this black mass crawl out of the lake before Mara got back into her glamour, climbing onto shore with a fish between her teeth, and Aurelia was instantly in love. Mara thought it was funny that this huge 7ft ghoul was completely obsessed with her but she’s a sucker for big buff ladies so when Aurelia made a move on her, she couldn’t help but say yes.

I have a few others like Helio and Sister Stolas but they’re not as fleshed out as my beloved demon girls. Plus, Sister Stolas was made pretty much just so I can draw a slutty nun lol. I’ll probably post more about those two in the future though!

Etching process pt.1: sketching

hiii!!!! so!! as i’ve said i’m beginning a big etching project right now and i thought it would be cool to show a little bit of how i approach it simply because i love sharing my stuff online but in this instance i can’t anywhere else because it’s a secret gift for a friend!!!!! and also because as we’ve established with the etching fic i am a nerd about it lol

 so!!! a bit of the process under the cut!!!! including lots of pics and lots of rambling

okay so first things first. a decade old friend moved to a different country a couple of months ago, and right before he did we traveled together to say goodbye. i obviously miss him very much, so i wanted to gift him something nice. at first i was going to draw him some landscapes and that was it, but this week i thought wait a minute.. what if... i made an etching COMIC!!

and i thought this because when you print something you made in copper it leaves a very distinct volume on the paper that i though would look great as a comic panel, check it out:

but the problem is. copper is extremely expensive. and since im making a comic i’ll be cutting it in extremely specific sizes that are very, very prone to leave a bunch of waste behind. i usually sketch something on my sketchbook before i draw on the copper and call it a day, but this time specifically i wanted

to be extra sure of what i was doing

heavily trace pictures of the trip

have a cool digital illustration just in case something goes wrong with the etching

so i ended up playing around with the pics me and my friends took and ended up with a 6 panels A3 layout that looks like this:

as you can see some pics were just fine by themselves, but i meshed some things up to look better, and the first panel looked weird no matter what i did, so i took a pic in my room this week and photoshoped it on top of something else to represent the one hundred hours we spent snorkeling - which obviously i have no pics of lol - it worked just fine i think!!!!

but anyway. since we’ve established that i also wanted a digital illustration in this specific instance, i set the brush to a very, very small size (2px) and just... hatched the hell out of the pics. usually when i do my sketches digitally i print multiple copies throughout the process so i don’t waste time drawing things that won’t show up, but this time i just wanted to have some fun!!! not only would i have a cool drawing by the end but it’s always nice to like. test out how to draw something before you actually spend a lot of money to draw in on copper hgdkjhgfd the end result looks like this:

while everything looks fine on the screen, the second and third panel have waaaay too much detail for them to really work on print, so im doing a simpler redraw some time later so they fit better with everything else. but for now that’s it!!! im taking the printed version with me to my uni next monday and i’ll begin the actual etching, and when i have one of them ready i’ll come back with part two and show how you both etch and print an individual panel!! i’ve never printed multiple plates at once, so obviously there will be a lot of testing around about that specifically lol. wish me luck!!! you’ll hear more from me soon ;)

First, I’d like to talk about something I’ve struggled with and have seen MANY writers struggle with as well. Show don’t tell. Sometimes this isn’t necessary, but the problem usually isn’t whether the writer would LIKE to use this rule, it’s recognizing the difference between showing and telling.

I’ve come up with a pretty good description that I think is a useful litmus test. Showing will feel like a scene unfolding before you, almost cinematically. This can still be hard to sus out. Telling, however, is often quite easy to hear if you read out a given section. Telling will sound like someone who read the book TELLING you what happened, not just reading out a section of the book to you. If it sounds like a synopsis, you’re telling, not showing.

I have a project I’ve been working on, nightly, for over a week now, chipping away slowly. I’ve been playing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, for the first time in two years, and journaling about my experience. This journal is being written, however, from the point of view of the character I’m playing. As well, I’m supplementing this with screenshots which I include in the compiled copy on my Google Drive. My thoughts are, for this to feel like a daily journal with included sketches from my character. Sort of a travelogue, sort of an old-fashioned Let’s Play (like the ones from Something Awful). This is what I’m calling a Fictional Play. (A joke based on Actual Plays, where folks play TTRPGs and record those sessions, live.)

After I’ve finished playing as this character, my plan is to play as other characters in other regions of Morrowind and build up a little collection of adventures.

To help give me plenty of things to see (for potentially hundreds and hundreds of hours of gameplay) I’ve installed a few mods. These range from mostly visual to massive expansions. I’ve installed Beautiful Cities of Morrowind, Morrowind Interiors Project, Amazing Balmora Expansion, and last but DEFINITELY not least, Tamriel Rebuilt. Tamriel Rebuilt alone will add an almost unthinkable amount of gameplay and land to explore. There are many optimizations and fix mods I’ve installed, but I’m not going to list those here.

When I’ve finished a good chunk of writing and had a chance to go back and edit it, I’ll start uploading it here and on my Patreon as a free download.

I recently downloaded Blender… I’m not sure if I will use it. I have so many grand ideas. So many things I want to create. Right now, I’m finding it hard to make any good quality claymation because I lack space to have my things set up and ready to go. Any time I want to film, I have to set up and pack up each time and I normally only get small amounts of time to film. If it takes longer to set up and pack down than I get to film then I just don’t do it. I’ve had Claythulu made for so long. He’s just sitting there… He has probably hardened and can’t be used anymore 😅 

Anyway! So, that’s why I decided to download Blender. There’s a lot I need to learn and it seems impossible right now… I will possibly upload pics if I manage to make more than a vaguely clay-looking square. I will also be doing it with a laptop touchpad… no mouse… no pen or draw pad… wish me luck!

RAMP 2024 is officially over, with more than 300 maps (sorry David), and I’ve managed to create one map for the project this year. This year did not pan out as I’d hoped, as I had a second map in the works, but life has been very hectic, and I’ve had to pick and choose where I’ve spent my time. Of note: Fell Delivery broke about halfway through David’s playthrough, but in the final build of RAMP 2023, it’s fixed.

Finally got around to pushing myself to do this, so here it is! A basic overall sketch view of my Desert Na’Vi! 

Now to info dump under the read-more!

-The first pic is just an overall view and size comparison of them, to which shows they are actually smaller than most other Na’Vi inhabiting the different niches of Pandora. 

Their skin is also darker with less stripes, most of said patterns accumulating around their neck, calves and upper arms. Even their faces and ears are marked with darker markings to help absorb the sun from their faces. However, they have larger ears to help keep them cool in the heat of the desert as well as longer eyelashes to keep sand from tracking into their eyes. This also helps with keeping sweat and other annoying particles that may try to get in the way of their sights. Thick hair lines their heads for added heat protection, which also aids in keeping their queues safe from damage and/or potential harm from those trying to snatch at them. This thick hair also lines down their tails as well. Desert Na’Vi also have slightly larger feet then their cousins in the forest or the sea, helping them from sinking into the sand or slipping when running or moving about. Their toes are lined with thick, sharp nails to help with said traction; the middle toe being the longest and most dangerous of the bunch which can provide a deadly kick against unwanted foes coming too close to them. 

-The second picture shows a Desert Na’Vi without the thick hair on their heads to help show the extent of how thick the hair around their queue is and where it usually lies. This also shows that they have thinner, longer noses that help to keep them from breathing in any sand flying around during storms or movements. Once again, the ears are large to help keep them cool in the desert heat and their eyes are large with dark sclera to help them see better at night as they usually prefer to be awake during nighttime hours. The markings around their faces and necks are usually the darkest and thickest compared to the rest of the body. 

-The third is just a quick overview of the queue at work in connecting to a sacred area for the Desert Na’Vi, which is found in a small oasis within a cave far from their homes. Said queue is surrounded by thick hair to help keep it safe from various forms of danger that can damage it. Their thick hair can also be styled in a variety of ways!

-And the third and fourth picture show what these thick tails are used for! Should any of the Na’Vi be outside in the heat and without any shade, they use their tails to provide them said protection from the sun as it gives them enough time to stay cool from said heated moments. It also makes a great umbrella during heavy rains and when one wants to nap during the hottest times of the day. 

The tail also provides them with a means of an extra threat display to make them bigger to any of their foes, puffing it up to make it thrice its usual size and shaking it about while throwing a hiss or snarl at their enemy to back off. 

I’ll do more things later with them but for now, I am too tired and wanted to get this done. I know my words barely make sense and I’m sorry x’)
